Ewedu soup

Ewedu is a traditional soup in Nigeria (south west). It is also known as jute leaves. Ewedu can be served with buka stew and any swallow of your choice like Amala, Semo, pounded.

  1. Remove jute leaves ( ewedu) from the stalk and place on a bowl. Put water in a clean pot, add potash, place on the fire and allow it to boil till it bubbles
  2. Wash the ewedu (jute leaves) and add the ewedu to the water on the fire
  3. Allow it to cook for like 2minutes and check if it is soft
  4. Add locust beans
  5. Wash the small traditional broom (ijabe) and use the broom to blend the ewedu until it becomes smooth or use blender

  6. Add salt to taste and place pot of ewedu on fire for 1minute. Do not over cook.

  7. Serve the Ewedu with Buka stew and swallow of your choice
