How to properly eat pounded yam served with egusi soup:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Use your right hand (or a utensil if preferred) to take a small portion of pounded yam from the communal bowl.
  • Roll the pounded yam into a small, round ball in your palm.
  • Create a small hollow in the ball to hold the soup.
  • Dip the pounded yam ball into the egusi soup, ensuring it’s coated with the soup and toppings.
  • Add pieces of fish, assorted meat, and ponmo to your spoonful or enjoy them separately while savoring the pounded yam and egusi soup.

As always, when dining, follow the local customs and etiquette regarding eating with hands or utensils.
