Catfish, yam, and semi-ripe plantain pepper soup is a delicious and spicy Nigerian dish that is perfect for cold days or when you need something warming and comforting. In this post, we will explore how to prepare this dish step by step.

To prepare the catfish, yam, and semi-ripe plantain pepper soup, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 catfish, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 yam, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 semi-ripe plantain, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2-3 tablespoons of pepper soup spice mix
  • Salt to taste
  • Water
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish

Start by preparing the yam and semi-ripe plantain. Peel and cut them into chunks and set them aside. Next, chop the onion and mince the garlic.

In a large pot, add enough water to cover the catfish and bring it to a boil. Add the catfish pieces and let it cook for about 10 minutes or until the fish is cooked through. Remove the fish from the pot and set it aside.

In the same pot, add more water, chopped onions, minced garlic, and the pepper soup spice mix. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the flavors have infused. Add the yam and semi-ripe plantain chunks to the pot and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes until they are tender.

Finally, add the cooked catfish pieces to the pot and let it simmer for a few more minutes until everything is heated through. Add salt to taste.

To serve, ladle the pepper soup into bowls and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro. Enjoy your delicious and warming catfish, yam, and semi-ripe plantain pepper soup
