This is a northern Nigerian dish that comprises the balance diet. It so sweet that it is always in a meal plan of an Arewa person.
- First of all, make sure you remove any dirt in your bean and rice, then wash the beans and cook until soft that is if you want it separately not combined with the rice.
- But if you want to cook it together with the rice then cook for like 25 minutes and then add your washed rice.
- While cooking the rice, aside, wash your lettuce, tomatoes, onions, red bell peppers and cucumber if you like it, cut them into desired shape ànd make a salad then keep aside.
- Check your rice and beans, if it is done then serve in a food flask and keep it aside.
- Fry your vegetable oil or palm oil (any oil of your choice) with onion until it turned brown then put it also in a container.
- Already you grind your dried pepper (borkono or yaji) with seasonings such as Maggi, salt and onga, you may also add little cloves, nutmeg, garlic and dried ginger and grind them together.
- After finishing the cooking and all the preparations, serve in a plate or bowl, the rice and beans, the yaji, the salad, and top it with oil, you can add more Maggi powder to give more taste.
